Usually Dhurries are made from woollen warp and weft threads, but cotton samples also exist. Woven patterns include different: geometric or floral motifs, depending on the region of their origin.

Wool carpets with pile are produced in several towns. Rugs from Agra and Bhadohi are characterized with particular geometrical motifs. Khamaria, Ghosia, Jaipur, Amritsar, Pathankot and others are famous with Persian and Turkish-like style of their carpets. Varanasi, Mirzapur Bhadohi and Khamaria carpets experience the influence of Buddhist and Tibetan motifs.
