Why Carpet Stain Protection Should Be Expected As Standard Carpet Cleaning Service

For year now carpet cleaners have changed extra for stain protection. It’s a great way for them to make some extra money and up sell you. Well it’s as cheap as chips to provide and takes minutes to apply.

All the above would be fine if it worked 100% and it does in some cases but not all. Why? Lots of reasons. From wear to being applied wrongly or not at all in some scams.

When you invest in a wool carpet you would like it to last as long as possible, so you can get value for money. Most wool carpets will come with some brand of stain protection. The reason is that wool stains easily. So why use it in carpets? Because it warms and nice to the feel. And with a good stain protector applied it will last.

Like most things the protection will wear in heavy traffic areas and lanes so it will need topping up when you get your carpets cleaned. As I said it take minutes to apply and the cost is very low to the professional carpet cleaner.

With the average price of carpet cleaning going up, and you cant compare those really cheap deals as they are not trading as they should or I can tell you their price would be where everyone else’s are. You should expect stain protection as standard service.

If you don’t get this in with your clean then ask why? When they say its expensive then you know they are not being truthful with you. Its not.

You as customers have to push for this products to be free within standard service as carpet cleaners don’t see the damage its doing not offer it this way.

In the past few years more and more people are using hard floor coverings. Why because they are sick of stains on their expensive wool carpets. Things must change.

One other very, very important aspect is that lots of hard floor covering strip the environment of resources. I know that the stain product is not perfect in this area but I’ll bet it does less damage than say a wood floor does to the environment.

THERE’S THE SMELL, AS WELL

“my husband doesn’t stink!” exclaimed my freind, when she saw me at the weekly farmer’s market. “he got sprayed by a skunk this morning”, she added, explaining that she’d used a safe and simple solution to rid her spouse of the pungent smell of a skunk. He mixture was 1 cup (235ml) of 3% hydrogen peroxide with 1 tablespoon (15g) of baking soda and a “squirt” of dishwashing liquid stired in. She put the solution in a spray bottle and let her husband have it with remarkable results: The man did not smell of skunk. Since the smell from a urine accident can be as bad, or worse than, the visible stain, it’s useful to know that this will take the stink out of errant puppy piddles and cat territorial markers. The mild hydrogen peroxide in this soultion will not fade fabrics, so it’s safe for use on most surfaces, including fabrics and carpeting. (if you’re concerned, test a hidden spot first). Spray it on, wait for a few minutes, then sponge or rinse with clear water.

CURE A COMMON CAT WOE WITH CLUB SODA

Cats get hairball. And cats that have hairball are bound to cough them up some place usually in the middle of the carpet, or on your favourite upholstered chair. After years of trying various (stinky, toxic ) chemicals cleaners with mostly inadequate results, I turned to club soda. Now it’s all I use when my cat leaves a “present” on the rug. I just scoop up the solid material as possible, then pour on the club soda. After a couple of minutes, i blot the area dry with a clean cloth.

“RING AROUND THE COLLAR”

On shirt collars and cuffs:

Make a solution of 2 tablespoons (30ml) ammonia, 1 teaspoon (5ml) clear dishwashing liquid, and 2 cups (475ml) warm water, and pour into a spray bottle. Use as a laundry pretreatment, spraying on stains and leaving the garment for 15 minutes before laundering as usual.

Make a paste of vinegar and baking soda (don’t worry, it will stpo fizzing after a few seconds), and rub it into stains before laundering.

Shampoo is sometimes recommended for removing a “ring around the collar” since it is designed to wash away the same dirt and oils from hair and skin that cause stains on the inside of shirt collars. But shampoo often contains moisturizers, fragrances, and other ingredients that are nicer for your hair than they are for your shirt collar. Use it in a pinch brush it onto collar stains before laundering but choose the cleares plainest brand you have availble to avoid replacing one stain with another.

Don’t Risk Reapeats- Avoid Ammonia

Bypass the ammonia when you’re looking through your cleaning supplies for something to remove pet urine spots. The scent of ammonia may make your pet more likely to return to the scene of the crime for a repeat performance.
